Canada Entry Requirements for Tourists
Are you planning your dream vacation in Canada? Before you set off, it’s crucial to understand the basic entry requirements set by the Government of Canada. Knowing these in advance helps ensure a seamless journey and a stress-free arrival experience.
Please note that our company does not process visas or travel authorisations. We only provide trusted guidance and connect you to official Canadian government sources for all applications.
Every traveller entering Canada must carry a valid passport from their country of citizenship. Before travelling, make sure your passport:
- Stays valid for your entire trip (ideally at least six(6) months beyond your return date)
- Includes at least one(1) blank page for entry stamps
- Matches the personal information used for your travel bookings
Having accurate and up-to-date travel documents is key to avoiding delays at the border.
Depending on your nationality and how you travel to Canada, you may need one of the following:
- Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA): for visa-exempt travellers arriving by air
- Visitor Visa: for citizens of countries that require a visa to enter Canada
- Transit Visa: for travellers stopping in Canada en route to another destination
All applications must be made directly through official Government of Canada websites.

Upon arrival in Canada, border officers will request to see your travel documents and may ask a few routine questions. You’ll also need to declare certain items, including:
- Cash or valuables over CAD 10,000
- Food, plants, or animal products
- Restricted or prohibited goods

While Canada does not usually require specific vaccinations for entry, travel insurance is highly recommended. Healthcare in Canada is not free for visitors, and medical expenses can be high if you fall ill or have an accident.
If you bring prescription medication, keep it in its original packaging with clear labelling for easy verification at the border.
Most visitors can stay in Canada for up to six(6) months per trip, though the border officer makes the final decision upon entry.
If you want to stay longer, you must apply for an extension before your authorised stay ends. Learn more about extending your stay here:

Always double-check entry requirements, keep copies of key documents, and rely on official government sources for accurate and up-to-date information.
